Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, an introduction

The introduction to REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy ) is run at weekends, from our Loughton Centre with its access to public transport and public car park.

The introduction to REBT is the first level of training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy.  It is an enjoyable three-day training course that has been specifically developed to introduce the fundamental concepts of REBT, in addition to an optional 12 hours of supervised practice.

The course facilitates participants to:

  • develop their understanding of the theoretical principles underpinning REBT and the cognitive behavioural therapies that followed (e.g. CBT);
  • engage in consideration about how REBT can  be applied to clinical situations;
  • develop skills in the application of REBT to real emotional and behavioural problems safely within supervised peer counselling sessions;
  • learn the major techniques of belief identification and disputation (as pioneered by Albert Ellis)
  • the development of client strategies to develop new beliefs, emotions and behaviours;
  • homework ideas and construction plans for clients in treatment of anxiety, depression, anger, shame, jealousy and the other common emotional problems identified by clients.
  • on the first weekend, as part of the course, all students are expected to bring food to share with the group.  This is part of the course program.  The second weekend (saturday) it is optional
